Spicin' Up Flip Flops

Living in Arizona, I know that FLIP FLOPS are a must in the summer! So whether you live in or you are taking your summer vacation to a hot location, these will be fun to make and wear!
This project idea is to spice up flip flops. Here are some ideas that your daughter(s) can even help out with!

Step 1: Buy flip flops.
(I bought very inexpensive flip flops at Old Navy.)

Step 2: Decide on what style you want to make your new flip flops! Make sure you also know what colors you are going to work with.

Step 3: Go to the store that you need to get your supplies. (Flowers and ribbon can be found at Micheals, ribbon stores, or scrapbook stores. If you do not have any of these close to you, contact us and we can help you out!)

Step 4: Get started!

I have made 3 different styles to give you ideas, or to inspire you! We would love for you to e-mail us pictures of your finished projects!

 Here are some tips:

Flip flops with knots of ribbon:
(An old idea, but these can be made different every time they are made.)
* When you go to pick out the ribbon, remember to select different textures, patterns (including solids), & colors if you are doing more than one color.
* I bought 1 yard of each ribbon.
* I bought 8-13 different ribbons for each pair.
* Tying double knots helps the ribbon stay better.
* I did not, but you can use Frey Check on the ends of the ribbon.
* You can cut short, medium, or long lengths... whatever you prefer.
* Cut the ends at an angle.

Flip flops with one ribbon and a bow:
(This pair is a year old, sorry! But they are still together.)
* Lay your ribbon on the strap first
* I tried to get away with glueing the ribbon down, but that did not fly in Arizona! I ended up stitching it down with a needle. It was a little hard trying to push it thru the rubber, but it is possible. (Do not use any teeth to help with pushing! Wink!).
* Cut the ends at an angle and use Frey Check to prevent from fraying.
* Tie the bow and sew it down last.
* Try to hide the stitching.

Flip Flops with a flower:
(Sorry, my daughter could not resist wearing these with her dirty feet.)
* Use about 2 - 4 layers for each flower.
* Decide where you are going to place each flower. (center or side) Then you can poke a hole with a needle.
* Place the flower in the spot with a brad to keep it in place.

HAVE FUN!!!!!
